    Chronicle
Chronicle is a 2012 science fiction film directed by Josh Trank and written by Max Landis based on a story by both Trank and Landis. The film stars Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan, and Alex Russell. The plot follows Andrew (DeHaan), his cousin Matt (Russell) and their fellow high school student Steve (Jordan), as they form a close bond after receiving telekinetic abilities from an unknown object. The group use their abilities for mischief and personal gain until Andrew begins to use them for darker purposes. The film is visually presented as found footage filmed from the perspective of various video recording devices, primarily from a hand-held camcorder used by Andrew to document the events in his life.
This film reminded me of the cult classic anime, AKIRA. I can’t help but notice the similarities of what Andrew is going through with what Tetsuo had experienced. The used of the hand held camera style always appeals to me, just like the movie Cloverfield. I think it gives the story a sense of reality and it’s not like I’m watching it from a third person perspective. I always wanted to have telekinetic powers and the ability to fly. I love how this movie shows what a person would do given that powers. I can just imagine the sweet pranks i would pull granted this ability. I guess the tagline is right boys will be boys.

    50/50
So last night my cousin Carlo got me this movie. It’s called 50/50 starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen and directed by Jonathan Levine who also directed the movie The Wackness. The plot of the movie is about Adam’s (Gordon-Levitt) struggle with a rare kind of cancer together with his best friend Kyle (Rogen) and the rest of his family.
I don’t know but i could resonate with this movie, not that i have cancer or anything but i always feel like i am fatally sick (or am i just too emo). I love how the movie deals with that situation, that whenever your in trouble and everyone had already left you, you can always count on your family (his mom in particular). What i also loved about this movie is that they showed what chemotherapy session looks like and what it does to your body, does spreading the awareness of how bad cancer is.
So yeah i think this movie is awesome, a lighter side on dealing with this sucky disease.

    MIMIC
As a child i have always been fascinated by the worlds of insects. Growing up here in the philippines i was exposed to a lot of them at a young age. Almost all the pinoy kids love spider and spider fighting wherein you pit to spiders and let them fight or eat themselves while hanging on a barb-q stick, sorta like cock fighting. we also pit beetles against each other, we stick them back to back witha piece of gum and place them both side ways on a table and watch them wrestle. whoever gets back to his feet first is the winner. Kids also enjoy catching dragonflies, we even have 2 classifications for them; the tutubing karayom (needle dragonflies) are the small ones and tutubing kalabaw (carabao dragon flies) the bigger red orange ones. You gotta have certain skills to catch a dragonfly, one of the basic is sneaking behind them once they are perched on a grass, but this sort of technique requires you to be stealthy and fast, also this is a risky technique if you grab them by the tail because they might retaliate and bite you. A more skilled dragonfly catcher would grab them by wings, although this is a little tricky because the wings of a dragonfly is quite spread out. A nifty way to catch them is by using toothpaste and apiece of stick or twig. You simply place a small amount of white toothpaste a the end of the stick and just wait for a dragon fly to perched on it, they will end up being trapped by the stickiness of the toothpaste.
We had lots of fun with insects. So when this movie came out in 1997 all the kids in my neighborhood got spooked really bad. The movie Mimic tells a story about an entomologist, Dr. Susan Tyler who genetically created an insect to kill cockroaches carrying a virulent disease. The insect was called the Judas Breed a large insect looking like a cross between a termite and a praying mantis. They release some sort of enzyme which increases the metabolism of the roaches and kills them. The Judas Breed insect work spectacularly and the crisis was abated. Since the Judas Breed have been also designed to produce only one male species able to breed, an they kept it in their care, the hybrid species should die out in a matter of months. Three years later, people begin to go missing in subways and tunnels under the city. The Judas Breed insects have evolved.
The film is directed by Guillermo Del Toro and stars Mira Sorvino and Jeremy Northam.

    Wristcutters A Love Story
Kneller: Once upon a time there was a crooked tree and a straight tree. And they grew next to each other. And every day the straight tree would look at the crooked tree and he would say, “You’re crooked. You’ve always been crooked and you’ll continue to be crooked. But look at me! Look at me!” said the straight tree. He said, “I’m tall and I’m straight.” And then one day the lumberjacks came into the forest and looked around, and the manager in charge said, “Cut all the straight trees.” And that crooked tree is still there to this day, growing strong and growing strange.

Stephanie: Know what your problem is, Shapiro? It’s that you just have this really shitty way of looking at things, ya know? I don’t have that problem. I just look at the dopeness. But you, it’s like you just look at the wackness, ya know? Luke Shapiro: I do? Stephanie: All you have to do is look at me. And kiss me.
